Travelers (voyageurs), these are certainly the Montepulciano and Nielluccio grapes in the vineyards of François Collard. The Montepulciano is very Italian, the Nielluccio is a specialty of Corsica and the local variant of Sangiovese. The fact that they have settled in the French Costières de Nîmes is related to the fact that climate change is also tangible for François
With seven hectares of vineyards from his family, Sébastien Dampt started his own estate, Domaine Sébastien Dampt, in 2007. When it comes to winemaking, Sébastien keeps it simple, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Except for the grand crus, all wines are vinified in steel tanks.
Due to rising temperatures, he has been experimenting with various Mediterranean grape varieties for years. François was so impressed with the results of the Montepulciano and Nielluccio that he decided to create a unique blend.
He ferments the equal parts of Montepulciano and Nielluccio spontaneously, without the addition of sulfur. The wine then ages for six months in concrete vats before being bottled. The Montepulciano provides ripeness and a soft structure, while the Nielluccio adds finesse and freshness.
Les Voyageurs is a fantastic, original organic red wine, made from surprising grape varieties, yet still bearing the unmistakable Mourgues du Grès signature of tension, freshness, and suppleness. Enjoy it on its own or paired with dried French or Italian cured meats.
Tasting note
A youthful, purplish-red wine with a refined aroma of cherry, plum, blackcurrant, licorice, and juniper. The taste is full and smooth with pure fruit, refreshing acidity, and fine tannins. An elegant finish with hints of pepper and bay leaf.
To be enjoyed with
A beautifully fruity, lightly spicy red wine to enjoy on its own or with a variety of dishes. It pairs wonderfully with lasagna, pasta with game ragout, or baked eggplant with tomato and cheese.
Aging potential
The wine is currently enjoyable and easily drinkable for up to 5 years after the harvest.
