Quinta da Romaneira Tawny Port 10 Years Old

Once harvested, the grapes are traditionally foot-trodden. After fermentation, the wine matures in used wooden barrels until bottling. This results in a beautiful, elegant Tawny style with aging notes of dried fruit, spices, and caramel. It pairs wonderfully with nut and chocolate desserts or aged hard cheeses, and is also particularly suitable as a contemplative wine.

Quinta da Romaneira is the second-largest estate in the Douro Valley. The vineyard spans an impressive 412 hectares of land, stretching over three kilometers along the meandering banks of the Douro River. Around 86 hectares are planted with historic vineyards, terraced on the breathtakingly steep slopes of the river.

Due to the steepness of the slopes, all vineyards are maintained and worked by hand. To create top-quality wine and port, owner Christian Seely ensures that each plot, with its unique microclimate, is processed separately in the cellar. He also keeps yields extremely low, which results in grapes with great concentration.

This complex and refined Tawny is a blend of Ports with an average age of ten years. It is made from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca. Once harvested, the grapes are traditionally foot-trodden. After fermentation, the wine matures in used 640-liter wooden barrels until it reaches the appropriate age for blending.

This method creates a stunning, elegant Tawny style, with aging notes of dried fruit, spices, and caramel. The lively freshness, despite the wine’s age, is striking and is a signature characteristic of Romaneira Tawny Ports. It is delightful with nut and chocolate desserts or aged hard cheeses and is also perfect as a contemplative wine.
