These are the fruits of the Sapindus Mukorossi tree. The shell of this natural soap nut contains the compound ‘saponin’, which acts as soap after contact with water. The Elicious soapnuts are actually shells because we have already removed the kernel. So you have more soap for the same weight!

This beautiful cotton (reusable) bag is filled with 750 grams of soap nuts so you can get started right away. The soap nuts come with a smaller cotton bag that you can use in the washing machine.

 

750 Grams means peeling approximately 225-250 soapnuts (the size varies slightly) so that you can wash up to approximately 120 times at 30 degrees according to the usage information below. That is roughly €0.09 per wash. Not only ecologically, but also economically.

 

Usage:

• put 8 soap nuts in the supplied cotton bag
• put this together with the laundry in the drum of the washing machine or in the rack of the dishwasher
• With 8 soap nuts you can wash several times. This depends on the temperature because high temperatures remove the saponin more quickly. This is a guideline because it also depends on the water quality;
• When washing at 30 degrees you can use the soap nuts 4 times
• When washing at 40 degrees you can use the soap nuts 3 times
• When washing at 60 degrees you can use the soap nuts twice
• When washing at 90 degrees you can use the soap nuts once

 

You can add some essential oil to the soap nuts to add your favorite scent to your laundry

 

White laundry: when using the laundry bag with soap nuts, the white laundry may occasionally develop light brown spots due to the presence of nut shells. This depends on the type of substance and ‘stickiness’ of the nuts. Alternatively, you can make your own liquid laundry detergent using soap nuts and use it with confidence on your whites.
